The video „How to be/see a woman “presents
twelve contemporary positions of international female artists who deal with the
topic of „being a woman “in their current works, reflecting on their own
biography as well as social role models.
The selection offers an up-to-date inventory
of photographic expressions that link to the respective discourses on traditional, existing and new images of women. In this way, the film aims to make visible differences, but also similarities, in the perception of women‘s roles in terms of social and cultural backgrounds. The spectrum ranges from family albums to reportage, documentary photography, image appropriations and conceptual and staged series.
We founded the purpur collective in 2018 to
promote the visibility of women in art photography.
