Sputnik Photos Workshop

This 2-day intense, practical workshop will focus on storytelling in documentary projects with a special emphasis on translating / transforming the finished project into an exhibition.
During the first session participants will receive feedback and theory-based input corresponding to the stages of their projects. This group review will also be an opportunity to practice giving constructive feedback and benefit from the others’ work that is being analysed.
The second day will be conducted entirely within the exhibition space of the Lost Territories – Control exhibit put on by Sputnik Photos. An exhibition walk with the curators will be an opportunity to analyse in-depth the exhibition structure and the meaning of each exhibition element. Afterwards, during a practical exercise, participants will get access to part of the Lost Territories Archive and will be invited to prepare their own versions of the exhibition.

Sputnik Photos is an international collective founded in 2006 by documentary photographers from Central and Eastern Europe. Experiencing the transformation of their home region has become a pretext for commenting on the social, political, and cultural processes occurring in it. Using photography, film, and photographic books, the collective has been building a record of the transformations in the former Eastern bloc for more than a decade. The activities are supported by a team of curators, writers, graphic artists, and cultural activists. Using documentary photography as a starting point, Sputnik photographers explore its modern dimension and functions, as well as experiment with its form and content. The collective is also dedicated to diverse forms of visual education with a view to supporting and promoting young artists from the region.
