In Russia, about 60 thousand children get burns a year , 25 thousand of them are hospitalized. 
 Most often, children are burned with hot liquids (80% of the total number of victims). Flame burns account for 12%, contact burns (contact with a hot surface) - 6%, electrical injuries-about 2%. These are the main causes of burns in children. A severe burn is a complex injury that leads to significant changes in the life of a child and their family. Treatment of burns is associated with severe pain, prolonged hospitalization and sometimes prolonged immobility. Medical rehabilitation of scars is long-term, and repeated operations are often necessary. Lyosha and Vika were seriously injured in early childhood. They both had a lot of operations and long socialization behind their backs. Now the guys have grown up and are trying to find their place in the world. Lyosha studies to become an IT specialist and Vika wants to become a cynologist. 

Due to an accident that happened in his childhood Alexey got burned. Lesha suffered severe burns but survived. He was taken away from his home region Buryatia. The boy's salvation lasted for many years. Skin transplantations, surgery, rehabilitation.

You may find a couple of pagan traditions in modern Russia. They exist among the locals in Siberia, Volga region, far North and even in central regions. You may find pagans not only among Tyva locals or Mari people. They may also live  in megapolis  such as Moscow or St.Petersburg. Recently we face a huge interest towards rodnovers moment, or as they say - religion. We can try to describe it as a reconstruction of before-Christian pagans beliefs of ancient Slavic tribes. The goal is to rebuilt ancient Slavic beliefs and rites. It is also possible to say that modern Slavic paganism is a try to unite people in a kind of subculture based on pagans ideas. Some rodnovers do their rites of purification and naming. The main sense of it is to receive a new name. They even have built a pagan temple in one of Russian regions.

The story of Alexei Talai began with the old ammunition from the Second world war, that did not explode but waited for many years. Alexey lost his legs and hands (one hand fully and one below the elbow). Alex extinguished the fire, that the local children had made. The old war ammunition got into this fire and exploded. Alexey miraculously survived, but after this accident a completely different life began. Surgery, rehabilitation and acceptance of the new way of life. Years later Alexey became a master of sports in swimming, a member of the Paralympic national team of Belarus and was awarded the title of black belt in Taekwondo in 2010 in the United States. Thanks to the constant support of family, his will to live and love of sport it worked. He has four children. Alexey met his wife a couple of years ago and since their first meeting they never parted. The desire to live and love won.

Yuri used to live in Moscow and worked as a lawyer. But it has already been 5 years since he had left the russian capital and had moved to the unhabited area 100 kilometres far from Moscow. There he lives in a selfmade hut where he doesnt need to pay any charges. There is a highway right near his new home and a petrol station where he can buy fuel for his generator. Yuri also has a stove in his hut. He collects firewood for it in the nearby forest. He gets water for cooking and bathing in the forest stream. Yuri doesnt avoid other people. He communicates a lot through the Internet. Very often he has unbidden visitors. People who drive along the highway see his hut and stop to visit him. They bring him food, help him to pay for the Internet or share petrol with him. Yuri left the modern society by his own will, escaped social frames that point the modern life in a big city. By doing that Yuri showed that it is possible to live in the other way even now in the 21 century. It was a kind of protest against modern system of values that is imposed by the consumer society. Now instead of the difficulties that a typical city dweller has, Yuri resists the forces of nature. Every day time and time again he solves problems - how to warm his home, to find firewood and water. It was not only a runaway from megapolis into the deep forest but

Ostrov or “The Island” in English is a training military part of the rocket wax in the Pskov region. The main contingent there represents young boys not older than 18-20 – newbies, who recently joined the army, but now they are already attaining military prowess, acquiring physical skills with weapons and ideological training. Life on the Island differs greatly from the usual life, which the guys used to lead before. There are some special rules there: waking up at six in the morning, shooting, drill, songs, workshops, visiting military museums. The guys can’t use the Internet there so they get all the information about the world events only from special meetings with the officers. They take place twice a week. Most guys say they they willingly joined the army, because of the unstable situation in the country. All the young soldiers closely watch the course of events in the East of Ukraine. Young men do not exclude that in a short time they can be on the front line. It is noticeable that many of them are worried because of this, but they never show it.

Fighting Club is an entertainment for aggressive youth, beginning sportsmen or for those who is simply tired of everyday routine. Play fields, courtyards, forests, outskirts of the city or sport gyms may be a meeting point for the members of a fighting club. There are no rules, no payment, everyone can become a member of a fighting club, every newbie should fight. So, welcome to the club!

Russian football hooligans movement became popular in the 1990s. Ordinary fans, some of them influenced by European “fashion”, others because of pressure from another fans, started to unite into groups. The main thing about those gangs was aggression towards fans of the rival teams. First hooligans appeared in St. Petersburg and Moscow. After some time, this wave swept over the whole country. Nowadays hooligan gangs can be found in any city which has it’s own football team. The bigger the city, the greater the number of gangs. Moscow and St. Petersburg football teams have between 20 and 50 gangs. All of them have different number of members and the level of skills. Regional centers have from 10 to 20 gangs. I photographed football hooligans for 2 years. I travelled and attended football matches with them. Football unites people not only to support a club, but it also helps them create hooligan gangs to confront their “colleagues” from other clubs. No matter what you do in your everyday life, when you join a gang you have to accept its laws. And the main laws are solidarity, strength and cruelty. Every gang has hierarchy and authorities.

Wrestling is a combat sport involving athletic skills, martial arts and theatre skills. Wrestling is not very popular in Russia. Actually there is only one Russian wrestling club. It is located in Moscow and has its training section, in the basement of a building, where beginners can learn and more experienced fighters can train. Periodically the wrestlers arrange shows, where they can demonstrate their training and skills. To do this they rent premises and install improvised mount rings on their own. Performances are preceded by a long workout, because during the show the wrestler performs a lot of dangerous tricks and stunts, often leading to injuries. The essence of wrestlers’ fights is not in the victory over the enemy, it is much more important for wrestlers to show the most spectacular show. To do this, athletes carefully think of their stage character, its history and relationships with other participants. For example in the Russian wrestling club there is a team playing the role of the Americans. They are wrapped in the American flag, so it makes the performance more bright and dramatic. Spectators who come to the show to cheer on their favorite athletes expect to see spectaclular stunts and impressive tricks that’s why sometimes you can see really violent scenes including ones with the use of some auxiliary items.
