One day the fossil fuel engine is replaced by electric motors, coal power plants are upgraded to regenerative energies - and also the food industry will change permanently. One approach that will play an important role in this field is „tech food“.  Startups and companies are researching ways to use technology to reduce resources in food production, to establish new crops as sources of protein or to lower food waste through digital networking. Some tech-food approaches seem like visions from a science fiction story - and yet they are already part of our present: Protein-rich microalgae are cultivated in kilometer-long glass tubes, producing a hundred times more biomass than conventional grain fields. Pilot projects exist in which people take part of their diet intravenously, and an insect larva is being cultivated that could revolutionize existing food cycles. Food Sync gives insight into this tech scene and underlines that not only Silicon Valley can do technological pioneering work.

Chiatura is a Georgian mono city located 200 km in the west of Tbilisi. For mining the mountains – which are very rich on manganese more efficiently, Stalin decided to establish a unique ropeway system in the town. Originally there were 31 cable car systems which were used for transporting the material to the factories and also to improve the public transportation. Nowadays half of it still remains intact. During the soviet union this system worked out very well. But after the break down of the UdSSR the town did not get any financial support anymore, which resulted in economical stagnation. Since that Chiatura basically did not change. The cable cars are still the most decisive factor in terms of infrastructure and the mines are the main source of income. Scientists from Ukraine predicted that the manganese in the region will be gone within the next 16 years.

An Indian once told me: "In India every 40 kilometers everything changes - the food, the language, the mentality. The only constant are the conditions in the government offices." I wanted to review this thesis and photographed my work in three states and 14 different governmental offices. I found a connection between India and the Western world through their shared love of excessive bureaucracy. From my western point of view I am used to obsessed ways of efficiency, which treat humans as numbers. In India the carelessness of the authorities and the inefficiency with which the employees handle it fascinated me and I began to engage more intensively with the bureaucracy. Although the western world and India could hardly be more opposing both are united by the bureaucratic insanity.
