On February 6, 2023 a powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 struck southern Turkey destroying dozens of building and killing more than 50,000 people. Seismologists say the earthquake's devastation was due to the fact that it occurred around the Eastern Anatolian Fault, a region of instability that runs southwest to northwest of Turkey's southeastern border. The fault, one of many that cross the country, is considered one of the most active seismic zones in the world and, although there has been no significant activity for several years, it has been responsible for very damaging earthquakes in the past.

The rise in sea levels generated by climate change (global warming and melting of glaciers) is threatening the coasts of Senegal, destroying one house after another and putting at risk the population, 80% of which live near the sea. The situation is particularly serious in the cities of Bargny and Saint-Louis. In the latter, more than 1500 people were transferred to the temporary camps of Djougop and Khar Yalla in the hinterland. Although most people try not to be discouraged, every year Senegal loses around five meters of coastline and the dangers for the population are growing more and more. According to experts, sea levels on the coast of West Africa will rise by up to 4 millimeters a year, forcing thousands of people to abandon their current homes.

On February 24, 2022 the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Putin's troops quickly advanced north, south and east of the country in their armored vehicles. In the meantime, they launched a series of heavy bombings in Kiev and other cities, causing numerous civilian casualties. Men between the ages of eighteen and sixty had to remain at home to try to stop the Russian advance, while thousands of women and children tried to escape the country and reach Europe.
