The Swing Force Of Luetzerath
The small hamlet of Luetzerath on the edge of the Garzweiler open pit lignite mine was occupied for over a year by environmental activists in order to prevent the dredging by RWE.
To make the eviction by the police more difficult, activists hung themselves in ropes and climbed on mono-, duo- and tripods. To make the long hours in the air more comfortable, some of them sat in swings, thus the name "swing-force".
In January 2023, the occupation was evicted, the trees cut down and the remaining buildings demolished.
