DYS
Dyslexic people are often labeled as listless, inattentive and lazy; the experience, however, does not confirm this prejudice.
“Dyslexia” comes from the Greek where “dys” means missing and “lexis” indicate language.
The dyslexia is not a deficit, it’s a condition, a disorder. It manifests itself as a disturbance in the performance of reading, writing, counting, therefore it can make school learning hard.
If these people find compensation strategies, they face and overcome the frustration that accompanies their experience and manage to assert themselves: let's think for exemple of Albert Einstein, John Lennon, Agatha Christie, Pablo Picasso, Magic Johnson, Jennifer Aniston and many others.
There are areas that allow to realize vocations and potential, improving those executive functions that a wrong approach to dyslexia doesn’t permit: arts, sports, creative languages, social professions, research, the relationship with nature.
Or even photography, as in my case.
