Land of the Tiger
Anyuysky National Park is one of Russia's largest national parks, covering 430,000 hectares. The park is located on the right bank of the Amur River and in the lower reaches of the Anyuy River. It is one of the largest massifs of intact pine-broadleaved forest, which supports Himalayan and brown bears, Manchurian deer (East Asian deer), wild boar and the endangered Siberian (Amur) tiger.
The Siberian tiger is the main star of the national park. A total of about 30 adult tigers now live here, and there are no more than 750 Amur tigers left in Russia in total.
Anyuysky National Park is the country's main maternity home for the Siberian tiger: park staff and volunteers create comfortable conditions for the tiger, feed wild boars, which are the main food for tigers, monitor their movements, and protect them from poachers. The main task of the animal protectors is to expand the tigers' habitat to the north and bring their population to a plateau, safe for the species.
