Aki-Pekka Sinikoski is known as a multi-faceted portrait photographer whose works have been exhibited both in Finland and internationally. His pictures are colorful, tenderly humourous, but touching. Sinikoski describes his artistic photo production methods as lengthy and time consuming. According to Sinikoski this is because of the exceptional scope of documentary series, but also due to his wish to capture the passing of time. As a matter of fact he admits to being already hopelessly nostalgic at the age of five. He is not looking for decisive moments but rather the stagnant feeling just after these moments. Sinikoski has studied in Kunstakademiet at Kunsthøgskolen in Bergen, Norway and graduated with a Masters of the Arts at the Aalto University, Finland. He has also worked as an executive producer and curator of the Helsinki Biennale exhibitions since 2006. www.sinikoski.com https://www.instagram.com/akipekkasinikoski/ -------------------------------------- Aki-Pekka Sinikoski & Astrid Sinikoski: Ghosts Watching Over Me Ghosts Watching Over Me is a photographic diary we have been working on together with my daughter since 2011, when she was four. As kids our fears are often easy to name or recognise. We are afraid of monsters, ghosts, or the shadows behind the curtains. As we get older our fears often get more abstract. By working together we kind of open up, write out and reconstruct our dreams and fears. By photographing the fears we can tame these faceless creatures and ghosts. They are no longer our enemies, but our servants who are ready to support us and make us feel stronger. By creating meaningful images for others we have accidentally got meaning in our own lives as well. Our co-operation has become a way for us to spend time together and share our thoughts. I suggest these photos are dealing with the relationship between father and daughter by documenting our lives, fears, and dreams. The photos also reflect universal questions parents all over the world ask themselves. Questions of life and death, questions about what kind of future, role models, desires, ideals, thoughts, standards of beauty, consumption models, and memories we give our children. Hi, I am Ben Maier a people and documentary photographer. Currently based in The Hague, The Netherlands. I’m searching for stories that feed my creativity. As an explorer of cultures and places I am always curious about the world and the unseen. I believe in photographs which tell a powerful story themselves and which are good parts of a series. I learned about cultures and diversity, experienced true hospitality and made friendships which matter. I want to use the power of images I create to show the beauty and diversity of our planet – it’s important for me to see humans peacefully united.
